Maybe a longshot...

A friend is looking for a service which locates mobile phones using triangulation from masts rather than gps. I think the emergency services use it, and the AA/RAC may do to locate breakdowns involving vulnerable people. Does anyone know what it's called, or who provides it?

Thanks in advance

If you want to trace phones without their owners' permission, I think you'll find it's not easy. However, if they agree to be traced, Google Latitude will do it for free as long as they're smartphones. Otherwise, firms such as Mobile Locate offer a paid service which works with most phones.

Are you trying to locate a phone remotely (from web or another phone) or trying to get the location of the phone in your hand ?

Inland or off the coast ?

Just curious.....
