Hi

Have just purchased a Navman dsc vhf to compliment the navman plotter and autopilot on my new purchase, the installation guide says I need to enter my MMSID?

Now call me thick (waits for it) but where do I get one of these unique numbers from?

Thanks
Rob

Ofcom. It will be on your ships radio licence details if you told them you had a dsc radio when you applied for it. Otherwise contact them to update the licence, and when you tell them you have a dsc radio they will issue you with the number you require

Right then now I'm in the sh*t I guess!

Hands up in all the years of owning a boat(boats) I've never applied for or held a licence for my VHF.

The approach I took was are they going to ignore my plea for help if I'm unlicensed!

So right then to correct this situation.........How do I now go and get myself one?

I'm not a crim honest!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Don't forget the one day course, should cost around £65 plus a bit more for the actual licence (looks like an ICC), now go get it sorted .... crim!

Re: MMSID? (or MMSI?)

It was called MMSI when I requested it (years ago actually).
Do you know if the difference has to see with the different Country (I vs. UK), or did I miss some changes?

MMSI as I understand it, it is actually against the law to operate your VHF without your operators certificate, and now the ship's radio licence is free, inspections are being done and you can bet your bottom dollar they will also ask to see the operators licence.
Better to be prepared than fined IMHO.

Technically if you have a ships licence, and don't use the vhf except in an emergency, you are fine, so they'd need proof you had used the vhf in non emergency circumstance to be able to prosecute. Still better to have an operators licence however.

I do have the licence, just wondered about MMSI vs. MMSID.
But Brendan already sorted that out.

Re: MMSID? (or MMSI?)

Certainly glad I had done the course when I needed to TX a pan-pan, meant I had some idea of what to say.
I'm sure a HEEEEELP would have got a response aswell /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Same here in Italian regulation.
Can't remember exactly, but I'd say the licence is required anyhow when you have (also) SSB onboard.

Really? I suspect that its even less likely that you'll be inspected now - as there are even less funds since no-one is paying for their license.....

Good point, but that is what I was told by the course instructor, just trying to warn peeps that "the word on the street" is that checks are being done.
