As i'm about to order a DSC VHF, thought i'd amend my license to get an MMSI.... which i've done online....

Printed off the new license, and noticed that while I have a new shiny MMSI, it no longer has the Call sign on the license... is this correct?

Glitch on the whole hobble footed organisation - might be an oxymoron to call it an organisation.

About 6 months ago I grappled with Ofcom website for an MMSI on a new VHF set on our boat.
Eventually phoned, via VoipStunt fortunately, the conversation went sort of
But you are abroard in Europe! Oh?
But the boat is registered in the UK. Who can we get an MMSI number from then?
That's interesting, I'll send you a change form.

Filled in the change form sent it back and am waiting.

Hey ho

Just filled in the on-line form for a new boat licence. Got to the end of the process and nothing...no clues either. Rang Ofcom, oh yes, the application's OK. You need to log off then log back on in about 10 minutes and the licence will be ready. We'll see!!

I found it quick and painless to phone up the organisation - cant find the number now. I phoned them; they sent modified licence application form. I filled it in and sent it off. They sent back licence with MMSI number.
I had tried the website but gave up. The old fashioned method worked well.

Easier ringing them up, when i received the new form last year, mmsi portable was missing, but callsign and mmsi fixed was entered, so phoned and they amended and sent it out, and guess what, it was still missing, so phoned up and spoke to them again, and they checked it out and realised that there was a problem with the system and sent it out in the post again, all correct this time... received within 2 days.

So if you get a problem, best to ring them and speak to a human about it then trying to get it working online...

I found them very helpful on the phone. Its just the usual government IT problem.

Mind you, there is one govt IT system that does work. The one for taxing your car. Is it a coincidence that this involves them taking money from you?

my dsc license done online and printed "after much kerfuffle" has both callsign and mmsi number have you read it through properly.
