Having come much more recently to this boat owning fraternity than most on here, we bought our first boat exactly two years ago ... 12 years old and 24 ft long inboard and outdrive, small beer for some on here.
She has looked after us well, safely seen us through some potential mishaps, mainly due to ignorance, and set the way for a commitment to boating as an integral part of our lives.
They say the happiest days of your life are the day you buy and the day you sell your boat. Having put her up for sale a couple of months ago into an over-abundant market it has been a pleasant surprise to get a sale ( still subject to survey, but the surveyor is the one I used when I bought the boat!) at a price I was happy to get.
.. We had wonderful weather on Friday in Jersey and we had a fantastic afternoon blatting around the bays on the south coast of the island- so a feeling of real sadness..indeed my wife said on Friday night she hoped the sale fell through...
So she may be gone by the end of this week, with fond memories of a great first boat and a wonderful last trip..
Already poring over the broker listings for her replacement ...we're planning to switch to the ' other side' and getting a sail boat as I have just retired...time rich and income poor!!
So ..are my mixed feelings par for the course, or are others glad to get the current one out of the way to get the next one, or put a stop to the constant costs??
