Mistley Quay?

We visited Mistley Quay at the end of May, by land, and found the offending fence to be still in place. It might be possible to come alongside but It would be almost impossible to land onto the quayside unless you brought scaling ladders with you.

Such a shame that despite the best efforts of the Free the Quay campaigners in getting Village Green status, it seems the quay owners are appealing and still refusing to take down the fence or substitute something more suitable (on H&S grounds).

It is probably still possible to go alongside at Mistley Marine and get ashore from there. You would need to contact David Foster on 01206 392127 to find out.

I can recommend the Mistley Quay Cafe, near the Swan Basin, if you do manage to land.

Thanks, all a bit of a shame as a trip from Shotley to Mistley was a firm winter favourite a few years back.

There have I believe been some organised "raids" when a number of yachts have gone up and moored and with assistance from a shore based establishment, scaled the fence enjoyed a lunch and sailed away again.
Not sure when the last one was though.

Went up there last year and passed close to a yacht moored against the key enjoying a lunch on board provided by the Thorne.

Apparently they'd phoned ahead to order, and staff from the Thorne had come down to the key and passed the food through the fence.

Haven't been back to try it myself but it sounds like a plan!

Went there at Easter and the vile fence was there. Passed by and went to Maningtree, cracking pub lunch - think it was the crown, dog friendly and big portions of nosh. The fence at Mistley is an abomination though, hope it finally goes. Is it an attempt to claim it as development land?

Where did you go ashore at Maningtree?
