Mistley Quay has got to be open.

Fantastic news. Lets hope they make good use of their new 'green'. Does this mean boats can now tie-up and go for a pint?

The village green will now have to be registered by the council. The Inspector would have made it plain the fence is not appropriate on a village green. Now the students and Trent Wharfage and the council will have to work out a compromise. Apparently a very important issue for the Inspector is part of the ladder used to get up and down the quay was not completely removed:-)

Excellent news, we were told we could not land or moor up there the week before last by a jobs worth in hi vis with a handheld radio. We will be back in a couple of weeks and will see what happens then

It is going to be very crowded there, perhaps they need to build a marina
I don't think it'll be long before there is a marina along the south shore of the Stour... at the moment, that whole area is pretty badly served, with only Titchmarsh, which is a bit (and increasingly so) tidally constrained... I do seem to remember some talk a few years back of a marina just west of Parkestone, but nothing more heard in recent times.

I think I disagree.
Nearly every marina on the Orwell has vacant berths at the moment. Do we really need/want another marina within spitting distance of other marinas with free berths? Would it even make sense economically speaking?

but that's my point... it may be within spitting distance as the crow flies, but by road its a good hour from Shotley to Harwich, so too far for an easy drive... the population of that northern part of Essex aren't well served with marinas at all, unlike the Suffolk audience (and even the likes of you and I Will that drive fair distances to our boats, baulk at travelling the extra distance to the Essex marinas).... and also i'll bet that 2 years from now, all the marinas will be full again as economic activity picks up.... hey, who knows, you could be right though... its only guesswork!

You make a good point, Neil - one I hadn't considered (driving distance for the N Essex crowd iso sailing distance).
We'll see how it pans out.
