As long as you don't have a pop up screen blocker, which may be a problem, I just open these things in another window and go back to them later. From memory it was about 40 pages long, so will take quite some time to download, even on broadband.

It may help to workout what is going on if you RIGHT click on the link and choose 'save target as', that should download the PDF without requiring anything special from your browser. Then double clicking on the downloaded file will or will not launch adobe acrobat depending on whether or not it is installed.

Got there eventually, but it did take a LONG time. Well worth a read though. Makes you wonder about your own vulnerability when this sort of thing is going on!

A few interesting points in this.

No-one appeared to try chnl 13 - inter-bridge channel I thought, but since neither radio was set to it perhaps not.

Passage planning to sail through an anchorage would not seem to be a good idea to me.

Don't understand why 2 pilots had to board separately, the second when ship underway - in a F7.

I thought ARPA was compulsory on commercial vessels would this not have quickly shown the potential collision.

Really worrying thing for me is that 1 ship does more or less everything right the other does everything wrong makes it difficult for us to predict how (or if) a ship will apply colregs.

Pilot 1 was bolder. He boarded while ship was at anchor, and head to wind/tide. Pilot 2 didn't fancy it, and I can't blame him, so they upped anchor and turned across the wind to give him a lee in which to board.
