Hello,

I'm just at the end of a winter project and painting/varnishing my mirror dinghy.

I have got some cash left over and thought it would be nice to have a roller reefing drum for the jib. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a small discreet drum which will complete the job.

The mast will be going up and down regularly so it needs to be detachable...

The second thing I want is a boom tent, does anyone know what the tent like waterproof material is called, where is a good stockist and perhaps anywhere to find plans to give to the sail makers. Anyone had anything like this made? How much did it cost you?

Thank You.

Barton The smaller drum and the universal top swivel. (About £70) You need a wire luff on the handkerchief.

To be honest, in a Mirror it's as easy to shuffle to the bow and yank it down. Or rig a downhaul.

Then it does become overly expensive...

Second question only then regarding the boom tent.

Thank You LakeSailor

You could furl a hanked jib but not use it reefed! On old cruisers the Wykeman-Martin gear was used for such a purpose, but far too big for a Mirrror!

Might be worth contacting the class association to see if anybody has done before. TBH would have thought the boat a bit small for a useful boom cover any more sophisticated than a simple awning with tie downs. You can buy suitable material from many sources such as Point North or Kayospruce. Any sailmaker or cover maker would sew you on up.

Yeah, i only wanted something simple and so I just bought one of these as it looks perfect, pre-sewn. Has eyes all around the edge and with some extra string the loops through the middle will allow me to attach it around the boom/rasied gaff. Possibly still with the sale bundled on too.

I also have a dd hammock which will hang underneath so with that also stowed in the boa, I have the choice of a luxury hammock set up too.
