Further to earlier missspelt post. She sneaked out on first motor trials last Thursday (If three tugs and two police boats is sneaking!) She is down for sailing over the easter weekend out @ 08:00 and in @ 18:00.
She is listed on the schedule as a naval vessel - VT have some clout in those circles!
Great piccy @ http://www.mirabella-yachts.com
cant wait to see her with the 'rags' up.

We saw her being escorted up Portsmouth Harbour surrounded by tugs, etc. over the weekend. I understand the masts, rigging, sails cost £10M. Saw her again today as we went up the harbour- all moored up on her own as she's too big to use normal marina's. Seems a real shame - I wouldn't want to crew and know that I had to moor miles away from like minded yotties and not be able to share a glass or several.

<At least she'll look better than the 'high tech' aerofoil jobs >

Have you seen her? you would think that with all the money that has been spent to build her, they might at least have gone for a design that looks graceful instead of a block of flats with a flagpole

Have you been on her?

I think despite the vast amount of money that has been spent, the overall design brief has been met very well. She is lovely on board and I for one could not grumble to much.

The "tenders" that she stows are bigger than most of our yachts, you just use one of them to skim over to the nearest watering hole.
She was outside our place to have her mast fitted, and I understand from those who spoke to the some of the actual workers that it was technically very challenging, with a certain amount of expensive scrap being generated. I have never seen so much titanium on a yacht mast. The £10M price tag might be optimistic.
I still think that for such a big boat, she is actually quite elegant in the flesh.

I think that your figures for this ridiculous, over-hyped, wind-propelled liner are a little low.

According to today's Daily Telegraph the original fixed price contract was about £30M and is overspent between £5.4M and £20M!!!!

If this is the case VT Group have caught a horrific cold!

We agree with you Stephen

Sailing trials have now finished. While there are always going to be small problems, I think that overall everyone was very pleased. So for those of you who do not find her to be a "ridiculous, over-hyped, wind-propelled liner" (thanks Bob!), we will post sailing pictures soon. Unfortunately there was not enough wind to make these terribly exciting, but she behaved very well in what was available.

Think she looks great. saw her coming in and out of portsmouth over the easter weekend. out of interest what sort of speed was she making through the water in these light winds over the weekend ? and where did you venture to.

Sorry i'm being nosey now. I just think she is a wonderful piece of engineering.

How can the Sailing Trials be complete when the wind hasn't been above 15 knots for over a week? Is she only going to be sailed in light airs or did the budget and/or project delivery date finally reach a brick wall?

I, for one, would want to know how she would stand up under sail in F6 - what happens if she gets caught out by a squall? I would have thought the MCA would also want to know before issuing a certifcate...

10 knots in 13 knots of wind. Mostly in the Channel, too many restrictions on the Solent. We all think she'll fly in a decent breeze.

Hopefully you'll be able to see this (Picture by Julian Hickman):

We too would have liked quite a bit more breeze. Unfortunately, Mother Nature didn't cooperate. I can assure you that she will not avoid proper sailing. We would all have enjoyed watching the automatic sheet release at 20 degrees heel, as mandated by MCA.

There is some tidying up to do inside, but she is almost finished, so there may be a chance to go out again in stronger airs in a few weeks. Again, it's up to Mother Nature.

thanx for the picture, as you say i'm sure she will fly in a stronger breeze.

Thats one or two metres of sail hanging of the mast and forestay !

Nice boat. Where do you get such small crew from?

<hr width=100% size=1>my opinion is complete rubbish, probably.
