Re: November 27. nm

It will be in Portsmouth for the remainder of its fitting out, they might step the mast back in Southampton though.

I was lucky enough to take a guided tour on her yesterday, I took some photos here <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.YachtingForums.com>http://www.YachtingForums.com

I think not! A friend of mines firm is reponsible for the mast build - he had a test section as a coffee table. They didnt do the engineering, but even so he says the task is immense - almost every element was complex - how do you distribut 100's of tonnes of load safely into the structure at the various hounds and spreader roots?

The scale of the engineering is staggering, but much as I admire that I'm not sure the boat really moves sailing on - she's just big.

I think it will move sailing along to a certain degree, but only for a very limited and fortunate few.

If I was responsible for the design, I reckon I'd have a plan in my back pocket to convert it into a ketch or schooner just in case, a sort of post risk impact plan if you like....

I'll see one of the team from Vospers tonight, will ask him how its going and report back.

I reckon one class that is gonna move sailing on a bit is the Laser SB3, cracking little boat. Hope it kills the 707 cos they are horrid.

One of my irregular race crew has an SB3. Judging by the photo evidence from this years Warsash/Raymarine series they are a LOT of fun when it blows.

Crampons look to be useful kit for keeping your footing when they wipe out - however when they are on their feet they look to satisfy the adrenaline urge.

Now back from hols will be laying start lines etc for rest of the HRSC winter series, looking forward to watching the SB3's.

Mirabella - yep, 27 Nov, then to Portsmouth and into dry dock for the lifting keel to be fitted, then back to Southampton for mast stepping late december, propbly in Southampton docks (may change), then rest of fitting out.

I could beleive it, I'll ask my man in the know.

she might be too long for there though. how long is the outer pontoon I wonder.

I was talking to someone last night thats working on Sojana, we were discussing how they will get that 90 mtr rig up......we were in the pub and got as far as sinking the boat and lower the mast into the water....then it got silly....
