Minnie\'s maiden voyage
My new sails haven’t arrived yet, and there wasn’t much wind, but with an old mainsail from a MkII Silhouette and a jib that looked like someone had fired buckshot through it, we set off on Minnie’s maiden voyage.
The makeshift main was only two thirds the full size for Minnie so, to the very few boats we encountered, it must have looked as though we were well reefed down for the conditions – 5 knots, occasionally gusting to 6! Still, we got a bit of speed up here and there and enjoyed a beat up the lake and then a run (a huge overstatement) back to Blakeholme for a late lunch in the cockpit.

It was quieter than I expected for a sunny Good Friday on Lake Windermere but I suppose it’s still early in the season. A lone water skier defied the speed limit, occasional gaggles of canoeists paddled down the banks calling to each other in excited voices and a couple of boats tacked north with us enjoying the spectacular scenery if not the blistering pace of the undeclared race.
All in all, a good start. I just hope my smart new sails get here soon, though; we have to look our best for our first appearance on the Windermere webcam!
