Can anyone tell me what the minimum boat length is that I could take an RYA Day Skipper exam on? Is this the same for the ICC?

I've had a look on the RYA site but couldn't find the information there. I presume you are allowed to pay for an examiner to come and test you on your own boat?

Thanks

ah yes .... if you fail the tea making module you fail the whole course! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

There's no such thing as a 'Day Skipper exam'. There are two Day Skipper courses, one shorebased and the other practical, on a boat. The practical certificates say:

"This is to certify that xxxxx has attended a course of instruction at sea and demonstrated practical ability in all aspects of the sllabus for RYA Day Skipper"

There is an exam (and no official course) for the ICC, which may be what you are thinking of.

I think that you will find there is no such thing as an exam for the day skipper. You need to complete 5 days of training, which can either be with a sailing school or indeed pay a private instructor and learn on your own boat. The ICC does have an exam, but if you complete the day skipper this automatically qualifies you for the ICC.

Hope this helps.

The only exam for the day skipper is at the end of the shorebased theory course.
