This has been going on for some time but I've only just become aware of it as a result of having one fail. I was lucky: it got hot and broke the contact before it could set fire to anything.

The problem is with MCBs made by Electrium under the Wylex NSB, Crabtree (Loadstar only) and Volex VB trade names.

The particular items affected are as follows
Wylex Crabtree Volex
NSB06 6M1B06 VB06
NSB10 6M1B10 VB10
NSB16 6M1B16 VB16
manufactured Apr 2009 / Feb 2010

You need to get an electrician to take out the items to check the date code which is dot-printed on the upper left-hand side. It's the last 4 letters which are significant.
For the 6A and 10A units the letters to look for are RIRA, RERA, RTRA, RARA, RCRA, SRRA, RHRA, SSRA or RGRA.
For the 16A units the letters to look for are RIRA, RERA, RTRA, RARA, RCRA, SRRA, RHRA and RGRA.

See http://www.electricalsafetyfirst.or.../electrium-miniature-circuit-breakers-(mcbs)/ for further details.

Apologies if this has been posted before but I, for one, was unaware of it and am glad to have caught it before anything worse happened. It appears that I have got 5 of the offending MCBs in our distribution board.

Hager have just had a recall too. Luckily for domestic use, the ones affected are the 10ka type normally used commercially.
They are asking wholesalers not to sell the 6ka at the moment but they are not due to be recalled
