Got to Pisa yesterday. Saw a mini tornado this morning that bypassed the marina thank goodness. We just had wind, rain & lightning etc. You just see the last of it in the centre above the upwards pointing dingy.

Blimey, we're just down the coast in Santo Stefano and whilst we had a bit of cloud this morning, nothing remotely like lightning or a tornado

Now its just a bit cloudy, wind right down. Couple of pics of the marina entrance & the river Arno entrance.

Just spent a month around the Punta Ala & Elba area. Fab area & the Italians are so nice.

Came up from Cala di Medici yesterday. Staying in Pisa for a bit for the airport.

Have you been anchored in Gianuttri in the last few days or anywhere around the Argentario peninsula?

Ah OK. We have seen what looked like a Grand Banks 42 cruising in the area in which we are currently located and it rang a bell thats all

Freak weather in Antibes today as well. The forecast south westerly F6 arrived as expected, but mid afternoon the wind veered 180 degrees in the space of 5 mins and built to gale force. Many boats who had been sheltering from the south westerly were caught out, one raggie ended up on the rocks in Salis Bay and was badly damaged, two ski boats from the ski operator in the bay were smashed on the rocks and one of them sank, and a jet ski also thrown onto the rocks. An hour or two later all was calm.

Antibes earlier today -raggie having a hard time ?
Looks like easterly - so yup . will catch out those on this side of the Cap -Antibes
For those who are not familiar you can move round to the other sheltered side ,same with Cap Ferret

LOL, yeah, that doesn't look promising...
Not because in CF you couldn't have that sort of sea, mind.
But it would take a proper long-lasting winter storm to make the water as muddy as that.
I can't remember to have ever seen anything like it around CF in summertime.
Makes me wonder how long it takes after a blow for the suspended sand to settle, in SoF...?

It's all depends !
Frequency - its rare -but great for kite surfing :)-some seasons never , some once / twice .
How ever mistral ( this is not one ) does happen in the Var 40 miles west a few times -it's predicted though and plenty of shelter -peninsulars to hide from St Trop -Marseille .Its Allways from the W

Sea - the downer here isn,t the clarity ,is the temp .Yup it drops to SoF "freezing " standards down from usual 25/26 oC to a
Nearer 20oC they call it "Mer Agitee " .Takes hmm Maybe a week to build back up +1 per day .

Down wind ride is easy -prob for those not familiar with the Med scene ,is berthing in a blow -parking the boat .
It's not too bad in our marina as lads will if come out with Ribs and help hold /turn it etc .As I say rare .
Forecast are pretty good they show a predicted big wind wind "Faliabilitie grand frais" ( sp?) as well as direction
Eg it may say ---- Après Midi 3 - 70% Faliabilitie grand frais .
Or Après Midi 3. N avis pas grand frais . This means no chance of big wind

What it does not tell you is how BIG the big wind will be . So you have to make a decision -go out /stay in @ 70 % chance
