Anyone herd anything ?
Security today issued about a mine found between Guernsey and Alderney.

There used to be a few found on the east coast washed up and they would be blown up in a controlled explosion by the Army/RAF but I have not herd of any for years.

Just one more little thing to look out for.

Ive looked at BBC and tried a google but nothing shows.

very worrying though.

i suppose so many were laid its difficult to know how many have not been found.
also asks if they could still be live.
the montgomery off medway is still considered live and would make a mess of medway if it went off.

Hi Doug,
Im pleased you are speaking again after you complained my wind up had gone too far /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

When I hear about reported debris I have a quick look where it is but @hit, a mine.
I worked out tides, wind ,when reported and double checked !

All this time swmbo had the helm while I was at the stern /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It is thirty years ago when I was a kid that several mines used to be found and the way they were treated then I presume they can still go bang ???????

They are about I ton so I wouldnt want to hit one anyway, its not like hitting a pram dinghy /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Whilst on passage 2 - 12 July 2007 (Chi to East Anglia) there was a report by CG - Solent (Notice to Mariners) of a mine floating somewhere 'south of Falmouth'.

I did not note its location as it was too far away and also in the opposite direction, I was in Shoreham at the time, but this could be the same one?

You could try Solent CG. I think the report was between the 4th and 6th of July and it was in the late afternoon and evening (between 1500 - 2000).

Try them on 02392 552 100

Hope this helps?

The location today was fairly accurate ( 4 mile off my port side with an hour of 2 knot tide my way ).

I would have thought the CG would calculate the wind/tide and send a mine sweeper ?

The thought of it been around for 2 weeks.........

It is still a fairly regular occurrence on the east coast. Never heard of one floating, they are normally trawled up by fishermen. There was ordinance found off Southend on Sunday, cylindrical and pointed at one end so the fisherman said.

A diver found a torpedo off of Brighton four years ago and caused an evacuation (probably in more senses than one) when he towed it into Brighton Marina and tied it up to a pontoon.
