I am in the process of acquiring an Alfred Milne designed/built sailing vessel described as a Milne Tay day racer and thought to have been built in the last few years of the 19th century.
She is a half decked yacht 23'6" long with a long moulded fin keel and long bow and stern overhangs.
She appears to be sliding gunter rigged judging from the position of the mast and the various spars but no sails remain.
The hull is pretty solid and it is not difficult to follow the original construction but sail plans are uncertain.
Copies of original design plans would be the ideal if these have been published at any time but if anyone has any information about this craft or knows where I might find such information or of anyone with experience of these vessels, please be in touch.

Re: Mylne not Milne NM ;-)

Sorry but I'm a bit puzzled by your reply. Perhaps there was more to your message than the 'subject' but it's not obvious to me - I am new to this process - are you just telling me that I have got the spelling wrong or was there more to the message? If not what does the NM signify?
Please forgive any apparent stupidity on my part.

What do you want to know?. I used to own one. It is actually a Tay Sea Bird one design. Designed by Alfred Mylne in 1898. There were three built. They were sailed by paid hands who lived on board them were owned by jute merchants members of the Royal Tay SC. The fastest was Osprey which I completely rebuilt.

I sold it to Keith Schelenberg? of Scotish island fame.

Hull is carvel, yellow pine on oak, and should NOT be caulked, the pine swells and fills the gaps. Deck is larch canvased and the rig is gunter.

I have lots of photos and history. Where are you located? send me a PM if you want any more info.

I have sail plans they sail superbly I had sails made and may even have some old cotton ones here.
