DO NOT enter Padstow Bay in the dark. The area is littered with pots, if you turn to avoid one you are aiming for another.

It is a lovely place to go but the entrance is dogged by pots.

Also, if possible go onto the South Quay. All the holiday makers seem to sit on the North Quay to eat chips and other fried rubbish, they cannot resist throwing chips into the water to feed the gulls. Only you are moored under them so get inundated with shite hawks, feeding them is banned but this seems to be ignored.

It is a shame as the North Quay IMHO is the better side with more street artists, the shower block and restaurants. You have to walk right around the harbour with your news paper under arm to get to the bog at HW from S Quay as the walkway across the tide gate is down.

Great place to go on a lazy sunny weekend though, I am not trying to dissuade anyone from going, just noting a couple of observations.

Mooring controller is a great bloke, HM is, well, a bit....

You have 2 choices on arrival at Padstow - anchor out in the river or go into the inner basin. The harbourmaster will fit you in even if he has to use a crowbar. There is a strict tidal limit on access. Also, as you approach the harbour entrance, keep well in towards the shore.

It's a bank holiday so book if you want to eat anywhere and be aware that the emmets regard you as part of the entertainment and will peer in through your windows to see what you are doing.

If you see a bloke with long hair and laughing loudly at his own jokes - that's Pete - best not avoided for chance of not having a laugh with him. Believe me, he thought he had heard it all.

My advice would be to give yourself plenty of time to get there.
I "planned" this trip a few years ago, table booked at Rick Steins etc.

Took longer than anticipated to get out from Neyland, goty bounced around something horrible just outside Milford haven because the previous week had seen strong winds.
The result was much slower progress than anticipated and decided I would have been right on the edge of the tidal window for getting in...result change of plan, continued round Lands End to falmouth.
Crew not happy at missing a good meal (and yes I did phone up to cancel the booking)
