Haven't got a boat at the moment, need to find a mooring first. Anyone got any ideas about the best way to get a swinging mooring in Milford Haven, probably for something like a 27 ft bilge keeler. Any suggestions and especially contact details much appreciated.
Thanks

If a half-tide mooring would do, have a word with John Edgington who has the boatyard at Garron Pil, near Lawrenny. Give him Jumblie's regards.

The moorings in Milford Haven are overseen by Milford Haven Port Authority. They devolve the administration to a number of voluntary bodies, which include yacht clubs, private companies and individuals. The Moorings at Llangwm, for example, are administered by someone in teh village, with a waiting list around 10 years, and restricted to residents only.

The private companies include Rudders boatyard and Lawrenny Yacht haven, Neyland and Milford Marinas. The yacht clubs include Dale, Pembrokeshire and Neyland.

I'd look at the geography. Many pros and cons. Further up the haven is more sheltered, but further to get out of the Haven (used to take us around 3 hours to sail from Llangwm to the heads).

Yacht clubs are probably the cheapest, then Rudders/Lawrenny with the marinas, unsurprisingly, at teh top.

Here's a link to DYC application for a mooring.

The prices might surprise you. A few from our club (Cardiff) got moorings there last year.

good luck, it's a beautiful place to sail. pm if you have specific questions.

Thanks for these replies, I'm trying them both. Spent a couple of nights moored up on the pontoon at Dale two weeks ago in someone else's boat - looks a great place to be. Also spent some time on the water around Llangwm earlier in the summer in my Cornish Crabbers Cormorant dinghy - very special place, I'd no idea how amazing the upper haven is. Will post an update for others when I've got some more info on the possible moorings

Rudders boatyard do deepwater moorings and are good to deal with, most of the boat clubs administer their own moorings which are very cheap and not all have long waiting lists. Have you thought about Angle- very sheltered from most directions and close to exit but does dry. Dale can be exposed at times but a good active club and the pontoon is handy!

Angle Bay

If a half-tide mooring OK (With bilge keels should be no problem) then Angle may be a possibilty. Not as close to the heads as Dale but access by road is from the Tenby/Pembroke side of the Haven so might be a help...? Secure storage for your tender is available too :)

There were a few moorings available this year. Contact Mike Pedder - Angle Boatowners' Society Secretary 01646 641540

The port authority can provide a list of all of the mooring officer contact details and the areasa they administer. They can also provide waiting list applications for the areas they administer directly. To help anyone unfamiliar with the haven there is a chartlet availalbe from the port authority that shows all VCA, MHPA administered areas and the commercial mooring areas and marinas. Give them a call on 01646 69100 or email recreation@mhpa.co.uk
