Hi,

The new boat has a MY30 deisel heater on board, looks great an paper and for the month that it worked it seemed like a good idea. It stopped working soon enough (although it must be said I don't know anything about its history so it could have run well for ages til it became mine). I phoned mikuni who were nice enough but want £150 to service it. I reckon I should be able to heat the boat all winter for that amount of money so its either fix it myself of wang it over board and buy a heater I can fix.

So heres my plea...

If you've ever taken one of these apart and serviced or repaired it yourself, pleeeeease put finger to keyboard and share your experience: will it be a 'mare (like the aerogen....dont ask!) or is it do-able?

cheers

I dont get to use mine too much as my boat is now in Croatia but when my mikuni stopped working the first time it was due to air in the fuel line. It seems that the heater runs the pump for a while and if it doesnt get fuel it just shuts down - I simply bled the fuel line and it started again. Second time it was the glow plug that had sooted up. Straight forward to get to, I removed the glow plug and cleaned it in a little ahem petrol, and Bob's your auntie - the boat blew up ! Only joking having "de-coked" the glow plug it started stratight away.

Download the manuals from their site. Have you reset the microswitches? easy easy job, they're very small buttons that you press in. They click out if you shut down the heater incorrectly (turning off the power to the heater without letting it shut down does it)

The MY30 is a very simple heater and usually very reliable. good luck.

Hi,

I did trawl the mikuni site but only found a trouble shooting flow chart (which leads me to think my flame sensor is ill) and an exploded diagram written in 2pt, do you know if more info' than this exists somewhere?

cheers

Hi,

Just for the record, armed with the troubleshooting flowchart from the Mikuni site I went ahead and attacked the beast last week. I now have a working heater!!

Its a fiddly business discontecting everything to get the heater out but not impossible, definitely worth giving it a go given what it'll cost to have someone else do it.

Thanks everyone for the help and encouragement.
cheersm.
