Went well today .Only light airs but enough to see that everything works.Got the boat in and out without immersing the hubs but intend modifying the trailer to make it a bit easier.

Barebones and myself on the same side proved she is quite stable for her size.

One of the keels needs a corroded bit cut out and replaced but other than that no probs.

Will carry on refurbishing her now with a bit more confidence in the boat.

Good Ship Banjo

Graham

What happened to the good ship "Banjo"?

Sold her a few weeks ago Don. Little bit sad to part with her but wanted something small enough to tow to places we otherwise probably wont ever get to.

At 13 ft 4" Mighty Atom is certainly small enough :-)

Planning on a visit to the Dart once she is properly sorted. Then as many places as possible. Thinking of trying to get right up to Haverford West as a another possibility. It only draws about a foot.

I like it, would it be worth buying a big rear cockpit cover.

A cockpit tent would be good. There are some fixings around the edge of the cockpit that look like there was one in the past. Have to add that to the growing list of things to do :-)

What a smashing 'little ship' ! And how encouraging to hear of your plans for distant voyaging. Best wishes for many happy miles and lots of fun.

You and Barebones on the same side? I would worry about that on Chausey, and she weighs 8 tones! Does Mighty atom defy physics?
Seriously, she looks great, I look forward to hearing about your adventures. If you need any information about the Dart just ask, I have a couple of friends who keep their boats down there.

Cheers Allan If you are in touch with your friends on the Dart could you ask their advice on a good slipway with somewhere safe to leave the car and trailer close by.

Cheers Graham

How on earth did you launch without getting the hubs wet??? I can't even do it with the speedboat.

Back down slip until water nearly at the hubs. slide boat carefully back ,watch it doesnt scrape the back of the trailer metal work as the bow goes off.

To make recovery easier I am off to the scrappies to get some bits of channel iron to make some ramps at the back for the keels to slide down/up on.

Wouldnt work with a heavy boat but this only weighs about 250 kg.

Launching

i launched it at Cardiff Bay YC .Not sure where you can launch apart from the yacht clubs.Possibly Cardiff marina could be worth a call. Number is 02920 343 459 They are on the site that used to be Cambrian Marine.
