Finishing

If it only requires a few finishing touches to be worth £18,000 why not spend a couple getting it done .. Finishing the project could then net you £10,000 or am I missing something .. I take it that the finished artical is probably worth nowhere near £18,000 or is there something basically wrong that no one is telling about ..

She was on the East Coast for many Yrs

I would have thought 18k is too much for even a good one in full working order.
I looked at one a few years ago and was dissapointed with the interior as even though it was much longer than my existing boat (Jaguar 27), it appeared cramped down below. Very pretty boat when sailing though......

nantucket 32

The nantucket is a nice seaworthy boat but this one's engine is way to small at 8hp,i had considered one 6 months ago before i bought my seadog 30,the nantucket i was after had a nearly new 20hp yanmar just right, you will have to get a survey done unless your' really good with grp,a lot of work ahead of you but then im' an old guy.all the best.Ronnie.

That's not "light finishing" you can complete over the Christmas holidays.

hinges fitted to transom hatch.
gas locker fitted.
cockpit seacocks serviced.
cockpit lockers painted.
Requires wash boards.

Deck:

Anchor windless siezed (needs feeing or replacing)
teak handrails replacing
mast halyard winches stiff (need servicing)
jacksays fitting (steel, supplied)
gunnel top teak needs varnish.

Saloon:

wiring work, lights,mast,navigation equiptment.
teak grabrails replacing
gas pipes replacing
flexible water tanks need cleaning and refitting.
sink plumbed in (fexible pipes)

Heads:

toilet needs fitting. (not supplied)
sink needs to be plumbed in (flexible pipes)

Forecabin:

headlining finished (3" strip around roof to cabinsides)
windows resealed and windless mount resealed

Engine:

(saab 8hp)
has not been started for 3 years. would service and check prior to use. diesel tank will need cleaning out or replacing with platic tank. "

It's 90% finished with 10% to go. The list to do's goes on and on and on, it was'nt Christmas this year you will be doing the jobs they will still be there for Christmas 2010. The bidding seems to have stopped at £5000. Could be too good to be true and a geniune bargain, but this is the first time I have seen anyone wanting your telephone number and/or e-mail address if you decide to place a bid and I have been on this site for many years. Hmmmm

A lot of the 32' is in the bowsprit; the LWL is only 21'. It actually may be assimilated to a much smaller boat. In which case the reserve price with the o/s work to be done is not especially cheap. IMHO.

His figure for completed value is correct. They are cracking little boats, really pretty and seaworthy. I went to view one that had circumnavigated a few years ago. The down side is that they are very cramped by today's standards. Two settee berths, a cramped v-berth forward and a 'drop 'em and reverse in' loo.

If I wasn't 12000 miles away I'd probably want to check it out if only as a money-making project. There has to be a catch.

It looks a good boat from the pics, there are two at my club and they do sail well, but thats a lot of work left to do and that engine a sabb, they are good engines and bullet proof, but hellishly expensive to repair,a cylinder head £800 for instance,

There is an old saying,"if you dont like someone give them a boat".

there is no mention of "Spars" in the description

Factor in a new engine cos the existing one is pitifully small for a large and heavily built boat. And it hasn't run for 3 years and it's nearly 40 years old. So £6500 plus £6000 for the engine fitted. It's £12,500 with a lot of work still to do. Maybe not such a bargain.

Perhaps it's in his garden and he has sold the house? That's the sort of situation which might lead one to sell at any loss.

No, it's in a yard on the Hamble - I recognise it as my boat is in the same yard.
Without doubt you will need a new engine and all that is associated with it - ie. wiring, stern gland etc. Will probably add some £7.5k to the price, unless you are a good DIY'er! Add to that around £1k's worth of plumbing, woodwork, electrics etc (doesn't mention condition of sails either), and you're paying market price. Fine if you want to keep her, but don't expect to make any money out of the project.

I reckon the current engine would push her along at four or so knots. It would definitely be an auxiliary but as long as it's reliable is shouldn't need replacing. It is after all a sailing boat, and every owner so far has got along fine with only 8hp.

If the picture is what it currently looks like then it ought to be a good buy. It certainly doesn't look at all neglected. And once you start that list I think you'd be surprised how quick you can hammer through it. You've probably got to spend at least what you spent to get it fully up to scratch, but you could be sailing for an extra £1000.

My main concern is no iron shoe to protect you from groundings.Otherwise if I did'nt already have a boat to get rid of I don't think I could resist that.
There is one in a yard round here with terrible osmosis. That aside & if the engine is OK I reckon I'd be out sailing next week......& dreaming of sailing to warmer climes the following week. They are a lovely little boat that I have always had a soft spot for.

Owner of the clipper on ebay!!!!

Hello everybody,

It has become apparent from this forum that you believe the sale of my yacht sebago is corrupt, and there's some sort of catch.

Sebago is part 1 registered and free from debt.

The reason she is for sale is because i lost my job in recession, and without selling her, my family can not have a christmas and i cannot move them away so that i can start a new job and provide for them.

If that makes everyone suspicious, what can i say? I am putting my family before my yacht - not gambling debts and certainly not anything to do with drugs!

I have been in the composite industry for the past 19 years working with re-inforced plastics - glass fibre and carbon fibre - and she needs no glass work doing - all has been done.

She is as stated! And the bargain of the century due to my curcumstances and NO other reason.

I, due to my massive time constraints - starting a new job and moving away with my family, i have no time to be messed around by ebayers who have no intention of viewing or not paying after auction end - so therefore i want contact assurance.

I will block any buyer/bidder who has not viewed the boat and talked to me over the phone or in person, over someone who has taken the time to study the boat for themselves, and speak to me about legitamacy of the sale.

I will not tolerate timewasters because she really is the bargain of the century, but my family will always come first.

I would love to spend a little bit of money and the time to finish her, but i do not think i can warrant it when i can't even buy xmas presents for my family. So sceptics amongst you miss out at your will, if you cannot even be bothered to find out the truth!

I have listed EVERY job that needs doing in detail, because i am being HONEST. Down to even fitting jackstays which takes 10-15 mins. The engine is not routed as you were suggesting, and is original design spec, but does need a new plastic fuel tank - that i do not have the money to buy - therefore it hasn't been started.

Sebago's theoretical hull speed is under 6 knots. Therefore the Sabb 8hp is more than adequate for the purpose that it is intended.

The work time estimates i believe are correct - and it is a genuine sale.

If in doubt, come and have a look, rather than just being sceptical in an online chat forum.

I bid you all a merry christmas and a happy new year,

Toby.
