I am posting this again because I cannot believe that no-one is interested.

It is ideally suited to retired folk or those fortunate enough to be outside the 8/5 working week syndrome.

If you want to sail but do not own a boat there is no better opportunity around!!

Kim, this is NOT sales or commerce, it is a genuine, and very reasonable opportunity for Forum members.

My Skipper offers a non ownership boat share on a Coded Najad 390 based in Gosport.

There are peak (weekend) members and off peak (weekday) members. All peak are now gone BUT none of the off peak slots have been taken up.

The deal is simple.

There are 10 off peak slots.

For £800 per annum you can have midweek, bareboat sailing for most of the year.
With a full compliment of 10 on a 40 week/year basis you get a minimum of 4 x 5 day weeks. If the take up is less, you get more until such time as more members come along.

That, incredibly, is £200 per week or £40 per day, or better!!

There are no catches, the Skipper is open and honest about the fact that the share helps him to fund the boat, but why not if other sailors get a value for money opportunity to sail at the same time.

If this were a charter company masquerading as something else it would be far more expensive if it were seriously trying to make money!! Think about it.

There are bound to be cynics, that's human nature but would anyone care to post a reply that says you can get a Najad 390 to yourself for £40 a day?

Check out www.boat-share.com and go sailing!!!

Just looked at the website, it would appear that you are fully booked from mid-July until the end of August and the first weekend of half term, I know that holidays get booked early, but as a father of two that would not encourage me to sign up, sorry. Presumably if you had off peak members than they might get a crack some of the summer holidays weeks?

Your presumption is correct, but it is not "might" get a crack, it is "would" get a crack. If it is a cheap holiday you are after then even Thomas Cook get fully booked from time to time.
You appear to have missed the point that there is a beautiful boat sitting around doing nothing Monday to Friday for the most part of the year. In the absence of Off Peak Members, of course it will be used by Peak Members, that is what they pay the extra money for. BUT if there were Off Peak Members and they got their bookings in ahead of others then they would get the extremely cheap holiday you are looking for.
Summer holiday periods are always popular and usually FAR MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OTHER TIMES OF THE YEAR. The boat share is about economical sailing throughout the year for the benefit of as many sailors as possible. There are far too many expensive assets sitting around doing nothing most of the time and far too many genuine sailors looking for a sail. I think it is this blatant and rare altruism that most people have the most trouble with. Sad reflection on our society IMHO.
Sorry you missed the initial opportunity when we posted in January and the school hols are already booked up this year but it is nearly March. There is always next year. Why not become the first Off Peak Member and get your booking in early?

I could find no mention on the website of what the experience requirements are for becoming a 'member'? I could still be interested, especially as long as there are very few off peakers.
