At lunch time we were between shipping lanes I route to Cherbourg and I could smell that the pasties were ready so I nipped below and... found there was no HP sauce on board.

Aagh

Seriously though what a day spinnaker up with a clean bottom we have averaged 6.8knts, I hope it lasts for the rest if the week.

Nothing like as bad as being stormbound in Braye, during the Fastnet, and running out of tonic.

In those days one was allowed to purchase 2 litres of export gin in Cherbourg, duty-free, but only bring one back to the UK.

Floating gin bottles and drunken navigators were the two biggest hazards on cross-Channel trips.
