In those days one was allowed to purchase 2 litres of export gin in Cherbourg, duty-free, but only bring one back to the UK.

Floating gin bottles and drunken navigators were the two biggest hazards on cross-Channel trips.

At the back of the fleet we just used to follow the gin bottles. Much easier, and more reliable than RDF.
