I have some 25mm stainless steel woodscrews (left over from re-decking a pontoon - boaty connection) in an open box in the garage. I left a poly bag of birdfood beside them and forgot about it. I discovered yesterday that the mice had found these items. They had eaten some of the bird food - no surprise there - and had moved 20-30 of the screws into the birdfood bag.

Virtual pints for the most amusing and the most plausible explanations.

Sorry, no plausible explanation but another story somewhat similar. A friend's boat was broken into one winter. When he next visited he dreaded what he might find below when he realised the hatch lock had been broken but, to his astonishment, nothing had been stolen and lots of stuff he had left lying around had been stowed tidily away.

Saw something similar on TV, mouse covering hole into tin of food with coins or something like that. The theory was that they were trying to hide it from other scavengers.

... and one for Alahol. A second one available for further information about the program!

I once saw rats stealing eggs on a farm in Spain....one rat would lie on its back and clasp the egg....while the other one clasped its tail in its mouth and proceeded to drag it..
