I'm looking at getting a Azimut 55 in the spring and bringing it back to Toronto. I'm hoping to do the trip in the quickest way possible. I'm trying to get an idea on how quickly I could make the trip. Is 10-15 days a reasonable estimate?

Thanks in advance!

Are you the same chap wanting to bring one from Italy. Different boat from Miami more realistic.
Is it possible Yes.
Is it economic ?
Cost wise putting it on a low bed and trucking it up might be the best bet. width is important. you may need a wide load with a pilot truck which will boost the cost.
Doing it slowly by your self as Skipper is possible but take at least a month, better two. smell some roses on the way. it will be a memorable trip.
Best route probably up the intercostal and then up the Hudson and Erie canal. wont be 28 knot trip.
There are lots of delivery companies who will give you a quote.

The Atlantic ICW Florida to The Hudson is Just over 1200 miles.
Hudson River approx300 miles
Erie canal approx. Albany to Buffalo 350 miles US Army Corps of engineers use statute miles

Give or take 1800 miles.

Running at planning speed up the intercostal, you will not be popular. its probably illegal.
Running at planning speed up the outside is possible, expensive and boat will take a beating even though it is with prevailing wind and current.
Max width length and draft for the canal system is important. US charts and books are free on line. according to website all New York waterway canals are 34 locks, The dimensions for the locks are 328ft long 45ft wide the canal has a minimum depth 12ft and minimum clearance 21ft. you will probably fit.
Some of the rises are large. There is a website and sailing directions are available for 19 bucks.
doesn't open until May.
Your Boat will fit.
If you wanted to go all the way round into the St Laurence and up the Seaway you are looking at a very long trip. Fantastic Voyage I'd love to do it. Stopping for Beer.
I'd also love to do the intercostal and Hudson Erie route.
I would also check the Mississippi, you can run all the way up to lake Michigan probably longer distance not sure of canal limits, Length Width and Draft and Air draft. Air Draft shouldn't be a problem but Check it any way.
Bridges mostly on CH 13.
Realistically running more than 8 to 10 hrs a day is pushing hard. Even doing a full 24hr day. you are going to get less than 200 miles. on inland waterways.
2 full time pros plus deck hand's running 24, 7 stopping for food and fuel would be hard pressed to do it in 2 weeks.
I would advise taking longer and enjoying it. If it were me that's what I would do.

Try the Motor Boat Forum might be better for info most of us here are sailors, Though I do motor, mostly on big old displacement and slow.
Also Cruisers Forum is more US North American based lots of folks with knowledge of the areas you want to transit.
Try Sailnet on Google again North American Focus. Mostly sailors though.
Although this is international the majority are UK based.
I'm a Canuck but from the West. Still hoping The Canucks will bring home the Cup, Toronto not so much.
I did root for the Blue Jay's

Thanks for the info guys. I can afford 4 weeks if need be, but not really, but I'd rather spend the money on fuel an drive and get a free vacation rather than pay a trucking company, plus cranes twice.

The boat has a draft of 4ft, 15'7" beam and clearance of 16'2", I suspect that is without the little top on it, but that an be taken off easily.

I do plan to take the boat back down to Bahamas each year, so I'll have other times to smell the roses a bit, I'd like to see what I can make of it with myself and another captain doing pretty long days, but not quite 24/7.

Short of conventional charts, are they any encompassing sights that have some detailed canal info? The NY Canal system site is quite neat and shows piles of info, hoping to find some along the intercoastal.

Correct me if I'm wrong, if the weather is tame I can bounce back and forth between the intercoastal at some points in the trip to make up some time?

And lastly, yes - same guy looking at the boat in Italy. After shipping and electrical conversions it make more sense to get it over here.
