MG335 hull number location

Doubt they had a recognisable hull number as such things did not become compulsory until 1997. Before than builders used a range of identification measures, and many small builders none at all. Even more varied with designs that had more than one builder or were available for home completion.

If it is any help the correct position for a HIN (Hull Identification Number) is on the aft starboard corner just under the gunwhale and some builders used to mould in a number there. Otherwise sequential sail numbers were common or a plate somewhere inside with a build number, often on a bulkhead or around the chart table. My 1979 boat is No 208 and that is on a brass builders plate above the chart table. On an earlier boat of similar design the number was 634, but that was a design where the plans were sold for DIY and referred to the licence to build the boat to that design.

Good luck - hopefully another owner or somebody familiar with the boat will come along with something more useful.

Thanks to taking the trouble to reply. Yes, I have already looked around the rear starboard quarter and transom as well as around the nav desk but no sign. I know it’s hull 30 from the original contract but some physical evidence would be helpful.

Its very small, but is there... (unless boat has been modified/repaired). Port aft quarter, on the hull, below the aft fairlead.

It will say (for example) "30/88" which means hull number 30, moulded in 1988.

Lovely boat!! What's her name?

(Ours was HN 31/88, family owned for 14 years and still miss her!!).
