Can anyone give me some local or first hand advise on taking a yacht in there. I've not been for about 10 years in the non boating days. and quite fancy going back in the next few weeks with the boat.

we are 38 foot long and a draught of 2 metres. Looking at the reeds it looks like i can moor against south Quay. But is it pratical for over night or just for the day or is it a big no no. Also do they provide scafold boards to lie against or should i bring my own.

TIA

I was in there last month and there is room for a couple of rafts at a pinch. There was a board on the quay for use when the second raft has to lie alongside a projecting pillar. Because there are so few spaces it's first com first served and you may well find yourself rafting on a much smaller boat.

I was there last year and it was fine, but, as others have said, not a lot of space. There weren't any boards when I was there.

The Almanac says that it's not too good in certain winds (Easterly, if I remember correctly). Dead right. We tied up in lovely settled conditions, but the wind picked up and changed direction during the night. By 4.00am I had had enough, so it was an early start that day!

I go there quite often, with my twin keeler I dry out on the small sandy beach just outside the inner harbour.
Quite eventful last visit a few weeks ago, drunks swimming around boat at pub closing time, then a couple came on to the beach and had a shag, the seagulls were squawking all night and the fishing boats start early. Its worth a visit , mooring against the sea wall is usually ok as far as I know. Never seen harbourmasterm, I dont think he works at weekends, you pay the car park attendant.

Easily done
