Chronos (do a Google search) is lathe "nirvana" and well worth a look! They do small quantities of various metal bar stock ferous, non-ferous, round, hexagonal, you name it! Not the cheapest around but very convenient to order online. Also try the RS website - look in "Mechanical" and then "Engineering materials". Again, ordering online is easy. For ordinary mild steel standard sizes, I sometimes just pop round to my local blacksmith who is always willing to cut me a few inches for not much money.

I used to buy small amounts of metal from the scrap dealers on the nuffield estate next to the dump, they will have loads of bar ends and offcuts just what you need sold by weight.

Hi Gary
I also convinced everyone of the benefits of adding an ML7 to the toolbox earlier this year-...Your local scrap man is good 'cos its allsold on weight. Ebay can offer job ends of known type at greater expense imo.
I also buy from a ferous and non ferous metal dealer in south London who might be of use to you because they frequent the bigger boat jumbles too (George King,Metals 020 8672 2596 and 020 8672 8538).
Enjoy your new toy.you are about to save a fortune !

Edit.One incorrect phone number
