Because her headsail area is divided between jib and staysail, Kindred Spirit doesn't need winches and uses simple dinghy-style jammers for the sheets. However, the plastic jammers on the jib sheets are pretty worn, and the last couple of trips it's taken a bit of fiddling to get them to hold the sheet securely - not conducive to lightning-fast tacking :). The staysail cleats are ok; they seem to be made of some kind of metal, possibly aluminium, but have no name on them.

Anyone know who makes metal cam cleats? Not seen any in my local chandlers.

Even better if you can find some of the older style Tufnol ones made by Gibb or Main Marine. I have some, but they are proobably too small for your sheets.

Those all appear to be plastic.

Jimmy Green lists Barton aluminium cam cleats

Cheers! Thought I'd seen most Barton stuff, but must have missed those. Never seen them stocked anywhere, but I can order from Jimmy Green.

Are those better than metal ones? Does anyone still make 'em?

Yes, much better, kinder on cordage and last forever. Not sure they are made any more because of cost, but sort of thing that turns up in Jumbles and S/H chandlery places.

Plastic cam cleats

You might find you can remove the cams and "sharpen" the teeth with a file and get some more life out of the plastic ones. However metal are better.
You might consider cheap small winches for one or both of the jibs, they really can make life easier for adjustments and then you can use whatever kind of cleat you prefer. good luck olewill

Jimmy Green also list Holt ones. http://www.jimmygreen.co.uk/item/583/holt-aluminium-cam-cleat 5 - 12 mm lines.

Cheers, found 'em with Earlybird's lead already.

The Barton ones look the same as my existing staysail cleats, so I'll probably go for those. Only thing to check is the size of my sheets - I suspect they might be more than the 10mm quoted for the Barton cleats; it's possible the existing ones are a larger size that Jimmy Green don't stock.
