J n'comprend pas!

When watching the local weather on the tele, their pressure chart forecast shows a wicked low winding up and being over the Bristol channel on Monday.

When I look at the 3 day pressure animation on the met office website, it shows a weaker low over Scotland.

How come the two are different?

I can't answer your question but can offer this link to a site which gives better versions of the Met Office synoptic charts:

Hi Magic,

Depends on which company supplies the charts to the TV stations.

It may be that you different issues of the chart, i.e. one based on midnight data, and the other on midday data. Also, the Met Office web site (I think) only updates once daily from the midnight run.

If you look at my site www.weatherweb.net/uksail.htm you will see lots of charts there. Some are issued at different time to others. Very useful for spotting the inaccuracies and inconsistencies in the model, especially with the low tomorrow.

Cheers,
Simon

i don't understand either .... both Northwood & Bracknell synoptic charts for 1200 Monday issued last Thursday showed a low 970 over London-ish and isobars packed tight enough not to get a fag paper between but your site showed SSW 5kn wind over south coast ... where do you get your data from?
