Met office discrepancies.

The met office local forecast for Cardiff is for 5 mph Sw wind today and a max of 9 mph wind tommorow.

The inshore marine forecast for the Bristol Channel is giving force 5 to 6 today and up to gale 8 tommorow.

The reality was enough wind to blow your socks off in Cardiff Bay this afternoon.

How can the same met office put out such conflicting information? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

We left Swansea for Cardiff and asked Swansea CG for an actual 'sea smooth' was the reply , got out into Swansea bay and waves were breaking over the bow, i described it as rough......we turned back at Nash sands! They even overlook the sea and can't get it right!!!

The best met report comes from the mk 1 eyeball, seriously if you look at all the forecasts you will eventually find one that is favourable, whether you want to risk your life on it is another matter.

The secret is to use a source that you trust. I also use Met Office for aviation use and if two forecasts conflict you can phone and ask for clarification or if you feel retrospectively it was wildly adrift e-mail them and they will investigate. I also think it is a mistake to use a forecast that is not aimed at your interest e.g marine, aviation etc as with a specialist forecast they do look at the areas of information that particularly effect that interest.
