I was wondering whether anyone could help me out. My wedding anniversary is coming up (1 June) and I'd like to take my wife out for a picnic. Since we both like a) boats and b) the Thames around the Richmond area, I thought it would be a nice idea to rent a boat for a day. This could be anything with an engine really (not too fond of rowing against the tide & current which would invariably occur at the end of the day), a dinghy with outboard, a day/cabin cruiser etc. I have spent some time looking around and I cannot seem to find anyone who rents out this kind of thing. All I can find are either narrow-boats or rowing boats, which doesn't quite fit the bill. Does anyone know who might rent out these things around the Richmond area?

All help greatly appreciated.

Why not try the river here in Oxfordshire, much nicer and more peaceful that the tidal river, IMHO. Abingdon Boat Centre hire out motor boats by the day. They are based in, believe it or not, Abingdon, telephone 01235 521125.

Similar, don't know what's available in Richmond, but there are several day rental boats near Henley, including electric (nice and quiet and very easy to handle)

I'm afraid that I've never heard of anyone either but here's a suggestion. Phone Mark Edwards at Bridge Boathouses in Richmond on 020 8948 8270 and ask him if he knows anyone. If yes or no, ask him if you can moor anything you get on his barge while you have lunch/dinner/wine at H2O which is a great little boat/restaurant moored alongside.

Whatever you do, have a great day!! /forums/images/icons/cool.gif
