My Italian Waters Pilot is on the boat in Cagliari and I'm trying to work out times for entering the Straight from the north. I seem to remember the flow alters at Gibraltar high tide plus 4 1/2 hours. Is that the start of the northerly flow or southerly does anyone know?
Thanks chaps and chapesses.

Came north through the straights about 3 weeks ago on the north going stream according to the pilot timings. Actually experienced a slight south going current (SOG lower than boat speed) but none of the eddies etc expected. Rather disappointed as it was a bit of non-event. Of course living in Poole and familiar with St Albans and Portland etc never mind the Alderney Race, never expected it to be much of a problem!
