I refer to the Raymarine competition in the corner of the screen.
Actually, I was reminded of this competition when I was using a portable VHF recently. It's an Icom M1V. I bought two so you can walky talky and keep tabs on the kids. This particular type of portable VHF are very tiny and light. But they're waterproof rather than "submersible", as the Raymarine type advertise. Does this mean that the Raymarine ones are much better? Does submersible mean you can submerse it for a second as long as you take it out of the water very quickly? Or that it's like a submarine and you can go underwater across the North Pole? The guy in the shop said that the M1V were the absolute biz, with batteries that last for days, and at least one of the mags have also given them a top rating.
Unfortunately I've proably stuffed my chances of winning now. However, I did also buy a Raytheon meg-expensive plotter a while back, which is excellent at displaying the message "No fix" so we use a Garmin handheld, which also shows the speed because the Raytheon speedo/log is knackered. And thinking about it, the depth meter goes all flashing when we're in 100 metyres of water, but foortunately it's not too critical.
Alright then, what's the second prize?
