Lurch and his crowd have been out punting

they sailed the spring tides along the road

and for the punt obsessed - me included - there is a link to a wonderful article about the history of punts

loads of old blokes in tweed jackets, 12 foot long guns, long dead dogs

I am hoping to get some chichester harbour punting expeditions in before heading North in Harmony

D Help needed, your the DP man (Duck Punt before any one gets smutty). Do you know where I can get shopping list for items required for building duck punt.

Conversation:
"Have you seen this I want to build a duck punt"
"I am surprised you haven't"
"I will need the lounge"
"That's OK"

All good links and tips appreciated...

all plans here

http://www.keepturningleft.co.uk/blogs/ktl-vlog-duck-punt-01-plans-arrive/

just buy the wood as you use it

three sheets of 4mm exterior ply, some 1 x 2 and some door architrave molding, some cascamite and some screwfix stainless self driving screws

some polyester and some glass tape.

garage floor paint

tools are a jig saw, a drill that drives in screws and a plane

18 hours was the quickest build I have come across - but he is a KLTLer who re-builds cathedral rooves - mine took me a week from first cut to first sail

it really is just a pointy box - who gives a fig what it looks like

the build vids are also on my website

mine lives suspended from the garage ceiling

when I want to go punting I just lower it onto the polo roof bars and off I go

20 mins from decision to go to driving off.

I like the steam driven punt! As for a gun you can have one up to about 2 inch bore on a shotgun certificate, and should be able to get lots of ducks in one go!

That would make a fascinating colregs situation if a Rangerover came along.
A P Herbert covered that in one of his Misleading Cases, power gives way to sail.
Re wildfowling. At a meeting about flooding Wallasea Island, I asked the RSPB man when we could start harvesting the birds.
They don't have much sense of humour, do they? :)

There is lots of information on building punt guns in the Book Vintage Boats by John Lewis. Drawings too.
Does anyone know about punt guns on the Norfolk Broads? There are still one or two about.
Peter Carter, 'The last Fen Tiger' is still punt gunning, sometimes at public displays on the Fens.
