hello
some advice needed please. On the Merryfisher 925 the shower tray drains via an electric pump operated via a button beside sink unit. My problem is that this pump is taking ages to remove water. Can i use the usual drain and sink unblocking chemicals available in supermarkets? or are there any other considerations. The pump appears to and sounds like it is doing a great job alas only pumping probably half a litre per minute!!! Many thanks in advance as always for the sound advice available here.

Its very often hair blocking the system somewhere rather than the pump itself.

Can you get to the pump and check the pump impeller for clogged hair ??

If you can, follow the piping from under the shower to the discharge to see if there are any other obstacles.

I wouldn't suggest putting chemicals down it.

We had the same problem on our previous boat. The pump was getting slower and slower at draining the water from the tray. I eventually managed to get at the drain pump which had a filter on the pump, this was really blocked with hair. After cleaning, the flow was a lot better. The problem was the location of the pump, it was in a really difficult location. For this reason I put some fine mesh (flyscreen) over the hole in the tray. This captured any hair before reaching the pump so was a lot easier to clean.

We had the same problem, filter on the pump was full of crud. I now clean it out on a regular basis. The plastic filter can be difficult to grip and remove, I use a small piece of the none slip matting you get from the swindlery, works a treat!
