Can anyone give me information on having an outboard bracket fitted to a Merry Fisher 625 to keep a tender outboard on and also to use if main outboard fails as a spare engine.
Does the tender outboard have to be a longshaft to be able to use as a spare engine? What size needed to push boat along in order to get to a safe haven? Tender is probably going to be an 8ft loa grp. Could the outboard bracket get in the way if swimming off the back of the MF?

Hi,

Lansdale Marine are going to fit one on my 625 mainly so I have somewhere to keep my 2.5HP when not on the tender. It is one of the flexible ones that can be bent down to get the engine in the water and then up out of the way most of the time. Said they would need to shave away a bit of the GRP to the right of my main engine to make it fit though. But this still leaves the side with the boarding ladder free.

I have fitted a Plastimo lowering bracket to my MF625 transom and it certainly didn't need any of the transom being cut or shaved away. Just 4 holes.

We had it fitted to mainly store the tender 2.5hp engine too although it will also take an aux engine.

The MF625 transom is offset to take an aux engine directly on the transom but the transom is too thick for most small engine mounts. I have seen the transom shaved to be thinner so that an aux engine can be bolted DIRECTLY on to the transom but then no bracket is then required.

I didn't want the transom modified like that so I went for the bolt on bracket instead.

Hi Arny,

I did discuss it with them a couple of months back now so maybe the shaving bit was to fit it without the bracket, I can't remember now.
