Good morning

I am looking at buying my first motor boat and have been drawn toward something along the lines of a Jenneau Merry Fisher 695 or Quicksilver 640 Weekender.

Having looked at some of the smaller models I prefer the above for the extra cabin space and convertible dining table.

The other question is outboard or inboard engine ?. For example, there is a Merry Fisher 695 available at the moment with a Nanni T4,155 shaft drive diesel engine fitted.

I won’t be in a hurry to go anywhere fast (but still want to get there !) but am drawn toward an outboard engine for servicing/repairs.

My budget is £25,000.

I would very much welcome your comments and suggestions

Thanks in advance

we had a 625, very pleased with how it went, we had Suzuki DF90 and it was a great engine, powered it along very well and was economical. For your budget you would get a recent one I would have thought... if I recall (I did fit a fuel flow meter) at a 19knot cruise it was using around 17lph.... I think? (when I have more time I will have a look). One restriction we did find was when the weather turned it soon got a bit out of its depth but then at only 21ft it did blooming well.

We had a MF625, cracking boat, better build quality than the Quicksilver IMHO. Ours also had the Suzuki DF90, plenty of power although they also do a 115. The inboard diesel versions can be a bit on the noisy side but you also need to weigh this up against the availability of fuel in your area. Petrol usually has to be carried to the boat in cans, there is also the obvious risks of petrol on board to consider.
Happy hunting!

We had a 625 and now have a 705 (very similar to the 695).

The 625 was great fun for pootling around poole bay and I did mid channel fishing trips in it as well. Go for one with a 115 on the back if you can, a far better setup, a more relxed cruise and a better balanced boat.
The 695 is a great boat and we are very pleased with ours. Being a mid engine shaft boat it is quite noisey and it is slower but the sea keeping is far far better than the 625.

I would have thought that you may be able to source a 645 for £25K if you hunt around which might give you the best of both boats.

I've never been keen on the QS boats but that's just me.

Have fun looking.

I have the QS 750 really pleased with it - good sea keeping too.

I had a 625 with a 90hp E-tec, was way quicker off the mark than my pals 90hp Mariner.
But it did slam a bit, my fault should have been going slow in the conditions, but a great fun boat.
I traded it in for a 695 with a inboard, kept it 6 weeks, soo slow and noisy.
Traded it for a a 805, now theres a good boat if you you can stretch you budget? another 10k should do it :)

Many thanks for the info so far. Much appreciated.

Must admit I am beginning to swerve toward the Merry Fisher 645 at the moment.

Cheers

Had a 2008 MF 625 Legende with 115 Suzuki as a starter boat. Loved it. Tough little boats. In your position now I'd happily go with a MF 645 or Beneteau 680. I don't think you'll be disappointed in the boat but if you're anything like me you may eventually feel the urge for a bigger boat! I'd go for the 115 over the 90 personally and don't think there is much to choose between the Yamahas and Suzukis, both really good engines.
