I'm thinking about buying a lovely 17ft Wilson Flyer with this engine on the back of her....my questions are...roughly how old might his engine be and are there any horror stories attached to it. Any info would be greatly appreciated...Thanks in advance!!

You should be able to date it from the serial number and the lists at http://download.brunswick-marine.co...snew/desc?mod=17&lang=EN&categories=Outboard$
Sadly the lists are incomplete ... records lost in afire or something

Also you should be able to find an owners manual http://download.brunswick-marine.com/download/preparesearch?mod=4&lang=EN

Mercury outboards were the top of the food chain during the heydays of 2 stroke outboards. Little to go wrong with them. Enjoy the torque and lively performance. And grin at all the 4 ST folks who wonder why your boat is so quick.
