Mercury 8hp 2T prop shaft seals?

Service book shows the 2 seals back to back, lips facing away from each other. They seem to be flush together. Second image seems to show a gap between the seals which I assume you pack a little grease into once all in place. What is correct? A gap or tight up to each other? Book also says use loctite red (271) but surely that would mean they need heat to remove at some point. Blue sufficient?

No one replaced their own seals then?

Its not that critical, we often move the new seals in or out a bitif there is a wear groove on the prop shaft so the new seals have a flat surface to seal against, plenty of waterproof grease on them and refit carefully so as not to flip the inner seal lip the wrong way.
