Can anyone direct me to maintenance/servicing/repair information for the above? The Mercury site seems only to have a generic entry for two-strokes and even the instructions on taking the cover off are nothing like mine! Designs must have changed over the past twelve or so years /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yes it's a Tohatsu. Those manuals are pretty basic and superficial.
Quite a few of us have described stripping and rebuilding these. There is a thread going at the moment (Yamaha 2b, on the Wanted Forum, I think).
Any questions will get answers pretty quickly. Whether they are believable or not................

Thanks for the info. The engine currently runs and I'm working on the basis of "If it ain't broke ..."

However, even at my advanced age, I'm curious to find out how things work because when you are sailing you don't always have access to assistance /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif. It's a winter project to get the darned thing working perfectly and to feel comfortable about taking it apart if necessary. (In my youth I had a motor scooter which taught me the basics of two-stroke engines. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif)

I've had an offer of a workshop manual - which will probably keep me going through the long dark evenings in the boatshed.

I agree with your philosophy "if ain't broke " I also have the merc 3.3hp, the only essential thing I do is flush it out in fresh water now & again, I do however fog it for winter storage

cheers
