Hi, I have recently purchased a tremlett 21 in need of a tidy. I am having difficulty ascertaining whether the outdrive is seized, or the engine (diesel). I removed the injectors, the crank will turn a little (40 deg`s ish) but springs back-will not go even with a big socket on the crank-which surprises me. I am starting to wonder if the outdrive/ gearbox can sieze ? (Mercruiser Power Trim no 5153114) the prop free wheels OK Any ideas ?

Check you haven't got a valve stuck open on the engine.

Hmm - solved much to my dismay. Have managed to remove the outdrive and driveshaft and with surgical precision (HA) seperated the upper/ lower leg. Serious quantity of corrosion. The roller bearings had collapsed and dropped into the helical gears hence understandable reluctance to turn over ! BUT engine now runs fine. I have identified the leg as an older `R` type unit. I understand that the later alpha1 will bolt straight onto the R transom. All I now need to do is try and find an alpha 1 outdrive leg complete ! Any offers ??? And thanks for the advice both - just when you feel like throwing in the towel - a few ideas and off we go again !

try <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk>http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk</A> - you may well find a second hand alpha drive.
