I would be grateful for any help - I have a 20 foot sports cuddy with a 4.2l Mercruiser and would appreciate the benefit of your collective experience to recommend a well established Mercruiser engine service specialist.

I had the exhaust risers replaced in 2010 and since then, although the engine runs smoothly without issues, I am concerned about the oil pressure levels. At idle straight from cold the oil pressure needle is the near the top of the gauge and on the few occasions (I use the boat on the Thames) I have increased the revs on the engine past 1500 the needle goes that little bit further, pretty much to the last marker on the gauge.

I have been told by my existing mechanic who has spent time investigating that it is nothing to worry about and may be down to a faulty oil pressure sensor / gauge. I am dubious because the needle is so consistent in its readings - moreover I am nervous to now take the boat downstream to the tidal thames in case of being left powerless with a blown engine.

Any thoughts and certainly recommendations on a respected Mercruiser service engineer certainly welcome! Thank you!

Hi and welcome to the forum,

When I was on the Thames I used Blue Nine marine based at Val Wyatt's. Mercruiser main dealer and very thorough.... Give Eric a call and I'm sure he'll be able to help.

Did you have the oil changed at the same time? Could be something simple like the wrong viscosity oil or a blocked oil filter. What did the gauge read before?

I think for the little cost, I would start with an oil and filter change using the correct products. Then I would look at the sender unit.
