Hi folks,
Friend considering a RIB with the Mercruiser D219 3.6l diesel engine... I know nothing about these engines... any thoughts?

It is attached to a Bravo 3 out-drive, I have asked him to find out if it's the Bravo3 or the Bravo3X as from knowledge, an engine of this torque needs the 3X (hence why the 3X was introduced).

Many thanks.

Not an expert here but had last year a closer look and seatrail on an older fairline 33 with twin d219 and bravo II

When memory serves these engines are 180hp indirect swirl injection 6 cylinders made by VM .

While many say to generally run from mercruiser diesels a closer research gave me also opinions the italian VM 3.6 are actually not bad .

The engines in the fairline , close to 4000hours , ran like a kitty and sounded great , only little smoke but power output was low . They were not able to put the fairline on full plane , flatout was semiplaning around 14 knots .

Cannot say if the engines or the turbos were a bit tired since i did not purchased the boat .

Imho worth a closer look when the price is right

I'd say a 3X is essential, especially on a RIB which is likely to be driven hard in poor conditions and thus, have the prop(s) loaded and unloaded frequently.
