Hi,
Have tried searching but keep getting blank threads!
Anyway,as a follow up to my previous posts regarding an upgrade from my Bayliner 2556 to a 2858/288 Can anyone please advise as to what gph can be expected for a Bayliner 2858/288 (same boat) fitted with a mercruiser 7.4 V8 mpi coupled to a Bravo 3 dp leg.
Thanks
Rob

PS The diesel versions are like the proverbial rocking horse [--word removed--] to find!

Hi Rob,
If you register on this U.S site
Bayliner Tests

you will be able to get all the info you will need plus see a full video of their test of the 288/2858.
If I can remember rightly at cruise speed it was around
12-13 gph with the 7.4 lt. Lots more at full tilt !!
good luck.

cant tell what will happen post red diesel, but generally there seem few people prepared to go over a 5.7l petrol.. you may want to consider that b4 purchasing

Cannot help with the 7.4l but as a comparison, and you did mention the difficult diesel option, my new 275SB with the 2.8 Ltr Diesel over the last 12 hours has averaged 25 l/h at 22 kts at 3200 revs (not been above that yet as easing in the engine). Not very scientific due to the low hours and perhaps a bit slow for many but it suits me. Dover to Brighton 3 hrs each way at the weekend. Lovely.

Its obviously a popular video as it used to be free. I do remember the gph as posted above which should give an idea.

I cant remember where it was but I read an interesting real world test of three identical hulls with a 5.0, 5.7 and 7.4 the interesting thing is that fuel consumpstion was pretty similar across the board until you get to WOT then the 7.4 streaks ahead. The theory is that power is a function of a certain amount of fuel therfore if cruising at say 20 knots then it wont make much difference. I am still trying to get to the boat to fit my fuel meter but should be able to post my figures at various speeds once i am up and running.

my rough estimate at present is 10 to 12 gallons an hour based on hours run and fuel put in, I tend to cruise at 3300 giving me 23-25 knots

Hehe but you can get round that charge by clicking the link to the review here - Bayliner Reviews /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I also remember my friends 2858 getting 6 litres per hour at tickover but can't remember any other figures.

Edit : Should have said 2855

Likely to be US Gallon per hour. Should be 10% less for UK gallons

once you pootle out of the marina and then hit the throttle when you feel the beast roar behind you and the boat leaps forward like a scalded cat then it doesn't matter that you are in effect throwing tenners out the back it rocks /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif your crew think you are mad because you are grinning like a cheshire cat.
