What's your views on a Mercruiser 4.3 EFI V6(210HP) with a Bravo 2 leg, year 2000 in a 25ft Sports Cruiser, are they reliable, economical or thirsty compared with a V8, is it powerful enough for the size of hull, usage will be estuary and coastal.

There's enough of the old black nails chugging about round the coast. Its basically a solid lump derived from Mr H's finest detroit establishment. Its the EFI that gives it a few more hp, the carb'd version is rated at 190hp. There not overly juicey for a V6 petrol, depends if you run it at full bore all day.

210hp in a 25ft sports cruiser, a yank one I presume, should be plenty. Its never going to be blisteringly fast, but will be no slouch. I've got 140hp in a 21ft cuddy which will reach just over 30 knots on a good day. Spares will always be readily available as these things were dropped into most yank boats and Merc's will probably keep churning them out for a few years yet. The only thing that would concern me would be using one with raw water cooling around the coast. Some were equiped with fresh water cooling and it is available as an official Merc accessory.

OK, to hell with it. Unbolt it and we'll use it as an anchor!
