mercruiser 4.3 starter problem

I just received the mercruiser 4.3 starter which was bought on ebay,the starter looks fine.
But there is an internal noise when I move it. What should I check?
Or is it defective one ?If so,where to get high quality starter replacement ?
Google shows Autozone,advance auto, hexautoparts,I find most of them have core charge except hexautoparts.
Any recommensations ?

Whatever you buy make sure it is marine spec and ignition protected, as any stray petrol fumes will collect under the engine just where the starter lives, and if there are any sparks you risk an explosion.

My step grandfather with Ronnie Corbett ( comedian ) blew a boat to pieces in San Remo harbour about 60 years ago.

When I say blew up - it was genuinely blown to bits. They were both in the water and bobbing next to my grandfather was his cufflinks in a box that were beside his bed!

Remarkably they were not injured. My stem mums ex husband could see no way they could do any trip without causing damage and off his own back insured the boat for them. Just as well!

So whilst rare .... it really can happen.
