Mercruiser 4.2L diesel sterndrive engines -help please

My port engine's maximum revs are 3,000rpm and are some 600 rpm below the starboard engine. Is this a matter for concern? What can I do about it? When taken into the solent at the week end top speed and her performance was fine. Engine sync is also OK.

Rope barnicles etc have you checked the prop?

As everything else OK, could be a simple rev counter issue, one over or under reading!!!??

Yes I did, nothing apparent. Props scrubbed on Friday and put into the water.

Try taking the foam cover off the air filter. Try the flywheel sensor switch which will affect the rev. counter.

1) Airfilter
2) Leaver travel (does it travel to full fuel at pump/governor?)
3) Fuel Filters (Water seperators, primary and secondary)
4) Fuel tank isolation valve
5) Fuel tank pickup
6) Turbo boost
7) Rev Counter ..

Then you start seraching for difficult stuff....

600 RPM down on 3K is 20% down, so would concern me somewhat...
