The wire contact connected to the Coolant Temperature Sensor of my Mercedes OM636 was corroded and got accidentally snapped off. Can I just solder this back on and and therefore save the £42 for a new Coolant Temperature Sensor? :)

If it is broken there is no reason to not give it a try? If the broke piece is long enough it needs cleaning, fluxing and tinning then solder on a short piece of wire so it can be screwed back in to the housing then attach sender wire. Then cable tie the wire back to the housing so it is not pulling on the soldered joint. Have you looked at alternative items from ASAP/Lancing marine? Having said that I try an buy specialised bits from specialised suppliers as we need them there when more serious items go wrong. Also found the om636 uk specialist very helpful over the phone.

Yes.

Temp sensor on my stbd engine has one soldered connection for the same reason.

Hint: I soldered on a short tail, and fitted a male Lucas connector. This allowed me to use the original loom female Lucas connector so the loom is original, and no more work is required should I change out the sensor.

When I replaced mine on my OM636 some years ago I bought a sensor with thread adapters on e bay for a lot less-same with the oil pressure sensor

I would try soldering it.
But I've also bought sensors from the motorsport industry for a lot less than £42.

It's already been soldered! An there are traces of leakage...

Now that I've had a closer look at it, it appears to have already been soldered on by the previous owner. Attached are pix I took today. Note what looks like possibly coolant leakage around the base of the screw in bit of the sensor (I cleaned some of it off but should have taken a picture first so that folks on this forum might have a look). Looks a bit worrying...

If you get an aftermarket sensor make sure its compatible with the gauge, I replaced the one on my om636 with new gauge & sender from thornycroft for about 25gbp!

Its the first one, the bezel is what I think you call plastic chrome, not that durable but they have been reliable so far
