Interested in a boat which has been re-engined with a marinised Mercedes OM601. The engine type was widely used in many road vehicles. Lancing, among others, supplies kits for marine adaptations. Does anyone have experience with this engine?

I have an OM636...built like the proverbial..but no direct experience on the 601. I suspect it won't be too different.

As long as the marinising has been done properly with the correct parts you shouldn't have any problems. Good engine. I would ask though where did the engine come from before being fitted. It could have done many miles if it came from a vehicle before being converted.
